The Independent AIR is working to gather a Nordic/Baltic group of lens-based artist, writers, researchers and organisations who work with the theme of the Anthropocene; human influence on the planet, coexistence with other beings and other related themes. We hope to be able to facilitate a Nordic/Baltic seminar in Copenhagen in 2018 in order to create network, collaboration and exhibition concepts, to promote the influence of art on future development in a more sustainable direction and creation of new paradigms.

If you are working with these ore similar themes and could be interested in such a seminar and network, don’t hesitate to contact us for more information.

Moinho da Fonte Santa, Alentejo, Portugal

On the 1st of June our residency at Moinho da Fonte Santa in Alentejo, Portugal ended. After two round of 3 month in the fall of 2016 and spring/summer of 2017 our artists are close to finishing their works.
We have enjoyed several workshops with Adam Jeppesen and Esther Teichmann, as well as a visit form Lucy Olivia Smith, researcher at the Ecological Institute in Berlin.

We at The Independent AIR would like to thank all of our artists for working intensely and committed on their projects. A big thanks to Manuel Mesquite, Mafalda Santos and Ema, for hosting us making us feel at home and offering their beautiful place to support the creation of art.
So long for now Portugal, next chapter will be our upcoming exhibition in Aarhus in August. Hopeto see you all there!

Constantin Schlachter b. 1992, France, is an artist based in Paris who works mainly with photography. Nature, invisible and matter are dominant entities in Schlachter's work. Using them, he creates sensorial fictions while examining reminiscence, mental landscapes and a spiritual return to Nature. In his approach all notions of realism are voided, and are replaced with abnormal colours, subjects and textures. He works in an instinctive way, constituting a continuous stream of pictures, in which projects punctuate that flow by crystallizing his evolving feelings.

He obtained a Photography Diploma at Gobelins, l'école de l'image in Paris in 2014. In 2016 he exhibited in the collective exhibition “Planet B-100 ideas for a new world” at the NRW-Forum in Dusseldörf. He was selected through the Foam Talent Call 2015 to have his portfolio published in Foam Magazine #42: Talent (2015) and was part of the Foam Talent exhibition traveling from Paris (Atelier Neerlandais) to Brussels (De Markten) and London (Beaconsfield Gallery). His dummy, Deux-fois-né was shortlisted at the Unseen Dummy Award (2015), le Photobook Fest (2015), Fiebre Photobook Dummy Award (2015) and at the Breadfield Dummy Award 2016. He was also shortlisted for the Hariban Award 2015
